Sean Dyche, Premier League Manager, was a surprise guest to HTL’s ninth annual Showcase, rounding off the day with a wonderfully entertaining interview, hosted by our very own Alice Bufton Thorneycroft. Over 150 guests made their way to Lord’s, many of them seasoned Showcase attendees, who look forward to HTL’s flagship event where they access leading edge thinking on performance, organisational culture, social change, disruptive technologies, leadership and more.
As Dan Hinxman, Managing Director, TP ICAP commented, “I think regardless of your profession and industry there were bucket loads of golden nuggets; professional advice, anecdotes and desirable traits from the speakers that can be adopted and applied to my professional and personal life.”
Helen Glover, double gold Olympian, kicked off the Showcase, translating her journey of success to become the number one rower in the world. Iain Hennessey, paediatric surgeon and Head of Innovation at Alder Hey, created a huge impact with his insights into the importance of AI and innovation in hospitals and how the pioneering use of 3D printing to practise and rehearse is helping to save lives. The power of storytelling and its value to business in building client relationships was at heart of a hugely entertaining, interactive session lead by Richard Brimblecombe and Alice.
The Showcase has always been a highly effective forum to entertain clients, network and for senior leadership teams to take time out and refresh their thinking. Paul Holland, Managing Director, Fleetcor UK, remarked, “The Showcase offered some great networking, huge food for thought and an excellent way to regroup thoughts.” And as Hannah Doyle, PRS National Operations Manager, Lambert Smith Hampton also commented, “All of the speakers were phenomenal people in their own right. I feel honoured that my company selected me to attend so I could listen to them!”
The afternoon session featured Andrew Steele, whose experience of success and failure as an Olympic athlete led him to create DNAfit technology, a company that personalises fitness and lifestyle advice based on an individual’s genetics. Andrew was joined on stage by Elaine Fox and Kate Cook who discussed personal wellness, to explore the topics of mental health and nutrition in relation to performance.
Entrepreneur Richard Cotter blew the audience away with his story of how to ‘make it happen’ in a business, offering a great framework for improving your business. Neslyn Watson-Druée delivered an emotionally charged story about the challenges she overcame to become the Chairman of NHS Kingston – inspiring all through her determination and resilience.
Post event guest feedback scores for the speakers was at an all-time high, and perhaps best summed up by Philip Winter, Sales & Marketing Director, Italian Luxury Services, who commented, “I value these days as there are always moments in a presentation where the light-bulb goes on and you think, bingo! that’s insightful.”
